Showtime at WHSG
The main hall at Westcliff High School for Girls was transformed into a West End theatre last week as pupils took to the stage to perform this years' sell-out show "9 to 5 The Musical" under the superb direction of Mr Cottee.
All members of the production on stage and off stage played their part perfectly and created an unforgettable show full of technical wizardry, bright costumes, energetic choreography (led by Ms Birch), a thumping soundtrack (conducted by Mrs Daniels) and above all else – fun. The audiences enjoyed themselves so much with so many positive reviews from staff, students, governors, parents and guests.
The official review from NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) was full of praise for all of the lead roles and noted that "excellent support came from the many other named parts who were all worthy of praise". Praise was given for the high standard of choreography, the well designed scenery, an amazing band, fabulous costumers and the efficient backstage crew. The review ended with "a splendid enthusiastic and energetic cast produced a fun-packed, vibrant show. Many congratulations to the Production Team and to everyone involved" .
Mr Cottee and the Production Team's focus now turns to next year's school production and they are using a very imaginative way of announcing the show. A display board of 24 musicals has been produced next to the school hall and every day the team will be taking down one musical at break time with the last musical being announced as next year's show in the end of Easter term assembly. Will it be new musicals like Lin Manuel Miranda's 'In the Heights'? Will it be old classics like 'Grease'? You'll just have to watch this space and make sure you get a ticket next year!
