A Journey from Classroom to Career

Amber Livett's journey through a SEEAT primary and secondary school to becoming a successful business woman.

From Hadleigh Junior School to The Deanes, my time in SEEAT schools shaped the creative career I have today. Now a qualified, self-employed hair stylist, I specialise in balayage, panel colour, curly hair, extensions and complete transformations and I am also certified in sound healing therapy, helping clients relax and reset their energy.

At Hadleigh Junior School, I was always drawn to anything that let me be creative. I loved art days, fun projects, even braiding friends’ hair at lunch! I still remember when there was superhero day and I had created my own Batman costume and I was so excited to show Mr Smart, who I really looked up to. I also loved Miss Luckett, she was my year 6 teacher and I felt I could go to her about anything and she would always support me. That early encouragement made me realise how much joy there was in expression and individuality.

At the Deanes, my creative side grew alongside a stronger sense of independence. I was learning not just subjects, but who I was becoming. Classes like art, music, hair and beauty helped me understand that creativity is a real skill, something you can build a future from. I also learned what hard work looks like, the kind of focus and patience that later became essential in mastering hair techniques. The teachers who truly taught me a lot were Mr T, Mrs Griffiths, Mrs Haliday and Mr Turp.

Success can look different for everyone, and that’s what makes it exciting. Those years taught me that success doesn’t have one path and that creativity is a skill, and a career worth building. Whether I am transforming hair or guiding a sound bath, my purpose is the same: helping people feel lighter, brighter and more themselves.

Looking back, SEEAT schools didn’t just give me a standard education, they gave me the space to be myself. I was encouraged to be curious, creative and independent.

I learnt that:

  • Passion is worth pursuing;
  • Skills are built over time;
  • Being different is powerful;
  • Your path can be unique and still successful.

Those lessons led me to a career that truly feels like mine.

If I could say anything to pupils today, it would be:

  • Your imagination is important, protect it and use it.
  • Just because your dream is creative doesn’t mean it isn’t a real career.
  • Don’t rush to have life figured out. Growth is a journey.
  • Stay curious, stay committed, and trust your instincts.
  • The things that make you different now will become your strengths later.
