Westcliff Pupils Bowled Over at Chance to Shine

Students from Westcliff High School for Girls recently took part in the Under 13  "Chance to Shine'"  Cricket Tournament at Orsett and Thurrock Cricket Club.

The tournament, designed to introduce those with little experience to the game an opportunity to play cricket competitively, saw students work brilliantly as a team as they learnt the overarm balling technique and gained a better understanding of the ruling in Cricket.

Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. They advocate cricket as an effective way to develop skills like communication, leadership and perseverance that will benefit young people throughout their life.

The team played well against multiple schools in the county and enjoyed learning more about the sport. There were some outstanding performances with Sathini scoring many fours and sixes despite this being the first time she had ever played cricket. Niamh, who was the Captain of the team, was an excellent baller, and provided the best coaching tips throughout the day.

Students at Westcliff High School for Girls will now be able to develop their game play in extracurricular clubs and in lessons later in the Summer term.

Well done to all those who took part and thank you to Chance to Shine for providing such an enriching experience.
