A remarkable transformation as Heycroft Primary School receives glowing Ofsted report.

"Pupils are proud to attend this happy and dynamic school"

Staff and pupils are celebrating following their recent Ofsted inspection. The school, in Eastwood in Leigh-on-Sea, met the benchmark 'expected standard' of a high-performing school in achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion and personal development.

And the school met the hard to reach 'strong standard' for early years, and leadership and governance. This means the school is making a real, positive difference in these areas.

Inspectors commented positively about what it is like to attend Heycroft Primary School. They said:

' Pupils are proud to attend this happy and dynamic school. Their wellbeing and success are

the cornerstone of its work.'

' Pupils talk positively about adults who help them.'

' Pupils talk fondly about opportunities such as visits linked to the curriculum, after-school clubs and well-chosen reading materials that deepen their knowledge.'

'Pupils’ pride extends to the impressive outdoor facilities, which include climbing frames, scooters and an on-site swimming pool. They benefit from regular use of these facilities.'

' Pupils behave well, and the school community is mutually respectful.'

' Pupils feel part of an inclusive, caring community.'

Inspectors also commented that:

'Leaders' work on behaviour has transformed the school’s culture and ethos...Their behaviour in class and at social times is considerate and mature.'

'Pupils are guided through their learning in a friendly and supportive manner.'

'There is an inclusive culture of care at Heycroft.'

' Pupils are proud of their school and what it means for the local community.'

' Pupils in the early years benefit from a strong start that enables them to flourish and

prepares them for the next stage of their development.'

Headteacher Andy Abel said:

"This report reflects what can be achieved when a whole school community works together. Our children, staff, parents and governors all play an important role in making Heycroft such a positive and successful place to learn. We are particularly proud that inspectors recognised the caring, inclusive culture that exists throughout the school and the strong relationships that underpin everything we do. This is a wonderful achievement, and one that belongs to all of us."

The school is part of the South East Essex Academy Trust, a family of 10 Primary and Secondary schools in the area. Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Cooper commented:

“Three years' ago, SEEAT were chosen by the Department for Education as the sponsor for Heycroft Primary School after it had a disappointing inspection. We are so pleased to see the transformation and rapid improvement that has taken place since then. Prospective parents should come and take a look at what is happening in the school."
