Westcliff High School for Girls

Plain whsg small

Westcliff High School for Girls is a selective Grammar School with a Sixth Form of about three hundred and forty students. It was founded in 1920 as a co-educational school in Victoria Avenue, Southend, and moved to its present site in 1931. Since then the school has grown to it's present size of around one thousand and ninety five girls.

“In September 2003 we became the only girls' school in the country to gain Science and Engineering status; this will provide many unique opportunities for the students here. We pride ourselves on the success this school has achieved while still being able to provide an excellent range of other opportunities for our students.” (Dr Paul Hayman).

Our vision is to be an outstanding school with high moral values and a national standing for its scholarship, producing citizens who are leaders and thinkers, imbued with initiative, enterprise and a quest for lifelong learning.

Our key aims are:

  • To foster enthusiasm for life-long learning and the pursuit of excellence.
  • To develop in each student the skills, knowledge and qualities needed to play an active role in a changing world.
  • To give students the confidence to apply knowledge, experiment and embrace challenge.
  • To provide opportunities for personal reflection and to encourage a deeper awareness of spiritual, cultural, ethical and social issues.
  • To establish a community where students, staff, parents and governors work as partners with mutual respect and shared responsibility.
  • Our status as a Science and Engineering College allows us to promote high quality learning opportunities for our pupils using new technologies as they become available.

Holt Farm

Holt Farm Junior School is an academy member of the South East Essex Academy Trust. It joined the Trust in September 2014.

Currently the school has 9 classes for children aged between 7 and 11. Most children join the school from the neighbouring Infant school, Holt Farm Infant School.

In addition to 12 classrooms we have an open plan ICT study area, library, cloakrooms, storage facilities, and offices. Each classroom is equipped with state of the art CTouch interactive screens and visualisers. We have a large hall which is utilised fully for PE lessons, assemblies, productions and dinners. We also have a mid-morning healthy tuck shop.

At the rear of the school there is a large field, playground area, and adventure play equipment. There are numerous picnic benches and a decking area and stage. We also have a swimming pool.

After a difficult year in 2012-13, which saw the school judged as requiring special measures by OfSTED, wholesale changes to teaching staff, curriculum and discipline have resulted in the school making rapid and sustained improvement. We emerged from special measures by becoming an academy, but OfSTED had already noted good leadership and behaviour in summer 2014. The school continues to improve and standards continue to rise.

The school offers a good range of extra-curricular activity: sports, art and craft, learning support (e.g. Homework Clubs) and music. Staffing is now stable and we provide every child with a safe, happy and stimulating environment in which they can achieve their full potential.

‘Success with a Smile’ is the school motto at Prince Avenue: Our aim is to ensure that every child reaches their full potential within an environment which is stimulating and exciting.

High standards and expectations are a key feature of our school where the needs of the individual are met and everyone feels valued and respected.

We aim to make learning challenging, enjoyable and fun. We want our pupils to enjoy each day they spend in school and to look forward to the next.

We encourage our children to accept responsibility. We value politeness, honesty, service to others, leadership, hard work and enterprise. The importance of pastoral care and support is central to the way in which we work.

The school places a strong emphasis on a successful partnership with parents and welcomes their involvement and support.

A wide range of clubs and extra curricular activities are provided to allow children to extend their interests and develop their talents. Our sports teams enjoy competing in local and regional competitions on a regular basis, and our children take part in a wide variety of dance and music festivals.

The school benefits from extensive grounds and playing fields, a children’s garden, an ICT suite, library, music room, and well-equipped food technology and art rooms.

With our own Nursery and new Sure Start Children and Family Centre, we have the facilities to give all our pupils the very best start to their school life.

Rochford Primary and Nursery is a successful one form entry primary school in the heart of the town. Due to our popularity, the school is frequently over-subscribed. We joined the SEEAT Multi Academy Trust in 2014.

The school aims to provide every child with a safe, happy and stimulating environment in which they can achieve their full potential.

The school has a nursery and a further seven classrooms. We are also equipped with a well resourced IT suite, gymnasium and library.

To the rear of the school can be found a landscaped field, playground area, growing beds, early years play space, and adventure play equipment that we affectionately call the ‘Disco’. There are numerous benches including the ‘Buddy Bench’.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in 2012 judged us to be ‘Good’. We have maintained high standards since this time and have worked very hard to improve our attendance which is now over 96%.

We strive to achieve the highest possible standards and aim to inspire our pupils by cramming the curriculum with a broad range of activities.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly environment where adults and children share a mutual respect for each other. Together we continue to achieve.
